Law Kar-ying remains working at 80 due to cancer medical costs

Hong Kong veteran actor Law Kar-ying, 80, has revealed that he cannot afford to retire due to ongoing health challenges and high medical costs. Having battled cancer four times, including liver cancer in 2004 and prostate cancer in 2019, Law recently faced a fourth recurrence.

Law stated that his monthly medical expenses, including medication and regular check-ups, exceed 10,000 Hong Kong dollars. Because he lacks commercial medical insurance, he must pay for all treatments out of pocket. In addition to these costs, he provides a monthly allowance to his wife, Rosamund Kwan.

To manage his condition without the side effects of chemotherapy or radiation, Law has opted for daily medication and hormone therapy to suppress cancer cells. Despite his health, he maintains a busy schedule involving film projects, lectures, and Cantonese opera to sustain his finances.
