Lawmakers demand records on immigration enforcement shootings

Democratic Congresswomen Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin have demanded personnel and disciplinary records regarding federal officers involved in immigration-enforcement shootings. The lawmakers issued a deadline of November 10 for the Trump administration to respond to their inquiry.

The request, addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, acting ICE Director David Venturella, and CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott, seeks information on officers’ service histories, complaints, criminal and civil court records, and involvement in previous shootings. It also asks for details on training or disciplinary measures taken following weapon discharges.

Jayapal’s office cited concerns regarding officer conduct, including allegations of misrepresenting events or boasting about lethal force. The lawmakers stated that DHS agents have shot at least 25 people since President Trump returned to office, resulting in six deaths, including three US citizens. These figures are provided by the lawmakers and have not been independently verified by the government. The lawmakers argued that the scale of federal funding for immigration enforcement necessitates transparency and public accountability.
