Lawmakers oppose Gwangju military airport relocation plan

Lawmakers from the People Power Party are protesting the military's decision to disperse the functions of the Gwangju military airport to Yecheon, Seosan, and Chungju (Jungwon).

During a press conference at the National Assembly, Representatives Kim Hyung-dong, Lee Jong-bae, and Seong Il-jong demanded an immediate halt to the temporary relocation plan. They argued that the move would exacerbate noise pollution in areas that already host airbases and hinder regional development. The lawmakers criticized the government for pursuing the relocation without prior consultation with local residents, labeling the unilateral decision as 'state violence.'
