Lawmakers pressure Air Force over Joint Base Andrews fuel spill

Congressional leaders and Maryland regulators are demanding information from the Trump administration regarding an ongoing jet fuel leak at Joint Base Andrews. Despite previous assurances from the base that the leak had been halted, recent water testing near Piscataway Creek detected diesel-range hydrocarbons, including jet fuel.

Approximately 32,000 gallons of jet fuel leaked across various locations earlier this year. While about 10,000 gallons were reportedly contained, an estimated 22,000 gallons entered the environment, contaminating soil and the creek. Regulators have expressed frustration that the base has not yet pinpointed the source of the leak, which hampers cleanup efforts and threatens local communities and recreational areas near the Potomac River.
