Lawrence County proposed as site for Alabama Space Academy

As the U.S. Space Force prepares to relocate its headquarters to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, North Alabama is becoming a central hub for aerospace and defense. In response to this strategic shift, there are proposals to establish a Space Academy in Lawrence County, specifically in Courtland.

Proponents argue that Lawrence County offers the necessary land, location, and affordability required for large-scale aerospace facilities, including training grounds and simulation centers. The area is positioned near major industry players such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and United Launch Alliance, and is connected to the Huntsville aerospace ecosystem via Highway 20. Local leaders are being urged to consider the county's potential to support the next generation of space innovation.
