Lawrence Iquaibom appointed to 2026 World Weightlifting Championships

Lawrence Iquaibom, a weightlifting official from Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, has been appointed as an International Technical Official (ITO) for the 2026 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships. The event is scheduled to take place in Ningbo, China, from October 27 to November 8, 2026.

Iquaibom is the only Nigerian official selected for this global competition. This appointment follows several other international assignments in 2026, including the Junior World Championships and Senior African Championships in Egypt, as well as the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

A retired director in the Akwa Ibom State civil service, Iquaibom credited the support of Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno and Commissioner for Sports Elder Paul Bassey for his ability to represent Nigeria on the international stage.
