Lawson Grains fined after farmhand suffered serious burns

Lawson Grains Pty Ltd has been fined following an incident in which a casual farmhand, Madison Brown, sustained serious burns. The incident occurred on December 11, 2023, at the Uah Grain Bunker Site south of Forbes.

Ms. Brown was refuelling a Honda petrol generator using a funnel and a jerry can while working inside a sample stand. The generator had been purchased five days prior to replace a diesel model that did not require frequent refuelling. During the process, an ignition caused a fire that traveled up Ms. Brown’s arm and spread to the sample stand.

Ms. Brown, who had previous farming experience, was transported by ambulance to Orange Hospital and subsequently transferred to Concord Repatriation General Hospital for specialized treatment.
