Lawyer Ahmed Haggag referred to disciplinary hearing over perjury remarks
Lawyer Ahmed Haggag has been referred for a disciplinary hearing by the General Syndicate of Lawyers following controversial remarks regarding the use of false witnesses. In a video that circulated widely, Haggag discussed the role of defense in criminal cases, suggesting that employing false witnesses could potentially improve a defendant's legal standing and mitigate sentences.
Following significant backlash from the legal community and on social media, Haggag issued a formal apology via Facebook, stating, “I was wrong. . And I apologize.” He noted that he had reconsidered his long-held views after discussions with other legal professionals. Despite this apology, the Syndicate has proceeded with disciplinary measures under the Law of the Legal Profession, scheduling a hearing to investigate his statements.
