Lawyer and religious leader arrested in Aracaju for alleged sexual crimes
A lawyer and religious leader in Aracaju, Sergipe, has been placed under preventive detention following investigations into sexual crimes against children and adolescents. The suspect, identified as Carlos Madeiro Iannick, is accused of rape and statutory rape involving approximately ten victims over a period of nearly two decades.
Investigators report that the suspect utilized positions of trust, including his roles as a religious leader in the Methodist Church, a condominium manager, and a legal advisor, to approach victims. The 6th Criminal Court of Aracaju authorized searches at his residence and office, leading to the seizure of computers and mobile phones to check for illegal sexual content.
The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB/SE) has suspended the lawyer’s professional license pending an ethical-disciplinary process. While the defense claims the arrest was unnecessary and states the suspect is cooperating with authorities, he remains detained at the Military Prison of Sergipe.
