Lawyer calls for international investigation into Taiz civilian violations
Dr. Osama Al-Asbahi, president of the Lawyers Against Corruption network, has called for an urgent international legal and human rights response to the ongoing suffering of civilians in Taiz. He cited reports and testimonies regarding sieges and the restriction of access to food, water, and medicine.
Al-Asbahi urged the United Nations, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and international human rights organizations to launch independent and transparent investigations into reported violations. He emphasized the need to protect witnesses and evidence, document responsibilities professionally, and ensure that those responsible—including those who incite or cover up violations—are referred to judicial authorities.
He stated that targeting civilians or depriving them of essential needs cannot be justified by military or political pretexts and should not be overlooked due to political shifts. Al-Asbahi called on the international community to move beyond statements of condemnation toward practical measures to protect civilians, lift restrictions on roads and access points, and secure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
