Lawyer Lóránt Horváth reports cyberattack on email servers

Lawyer Lóránt Horváth, who represents Ukrainian money transporters and Oschadbank in the high-profile ‘gold convoy’ case, has reported a cyberattack on his law firm’s email servers.

According to Horváth, unknown actors gained access to the firm’s correspondence system, allowing them to send approximately 5,000 fraudulent RFP invitations in his name. While the attackers were able to use the system to send mass messages, Horváth stated that the firm’s systems remain secure and no successful data theft has occurred. He has issued an urgent warning to recipients not to open any suspicious emails or click on links and attachments sent in his name.

The attack is considered particularly sensitive due to the confidential nature of the cases handled by the firm. The ‘gold convoy’ matter involved the seizure of $40 million, €35 million, and 9 kilograms of gold by Hungarian authorities in March, though investigations were later dropped by the National Tax and Customs Administration after the legality of the shipment was verified.
