Lawyer Milagros Asmat Contreras faces ethics complaint over unpaid civil reparations in Chimbote

Lawyer Milagros Carmela Asmat Contreras has been accused by the father of Eric Manuel Roque Pineda of withholding money meant for civil reparations. Eric Roque Pineda, 29, was sentenced to a one‑year suspended prison term for drunk‑driving and ordered to pay 1,500 soles in civil damages. His father, Manuel Enrique Roque Cullcush, claims he transferred the required amount to the lawyer, but Asmat Contreras says she only received fees for her services and did not receive the reparations money.

The father’s complaint was filed with the Ethics Secretariat of the Santa Bar Association, prompting the dean, Dr. Cecilia Domínguez, to open a disciplinary investigation. The case has drawn public attention as the son remains incarcerated in the Cambio Puente prison in Chimbote, while the family argues the failure to pay the reparations led to the revocation of his suspended sentence.
