Lawyer seeks dismissal of axe murder charges over delays
Defense counsel for Ahwen Kohn, 26, will seek to have murder charges dismissed due to repeated prosecutorial delays. Kohn is accused of involvement in an axe murder following a dispute at the Little Styx River Campground on March 2.
During a hearing at Armidale Local Court, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested an eight-week adjournment to certify charges, stating the brief of evidence is now compliant but noting the complexity of the matter. However, Kohn’s solicitor, Kate McDuff, opposed the extension, noting this is the second application for more time after previous delays regarding outstanding police evidence.
Judge Mark Richardson has requested written submissions from both parties to address the application to dismiss the charges.
