Lawyers for Malaysian police officers deny syndicate funding claims

Lawyers representing two police officers who claim they were assaulted by the Director General of the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, have filed additional police reports. The supplemental reports, submitted on October 10, aim to provide material evidence to assist investigations into potential offenses under various sections of the Penal Code, including Sections 186, 323, 353, 355, and 506.

The legal firm, Tetuan Kamal Hisham & Associates, has also denied allegations circulating that the legal costs for the two officers are being funded by a criminal syndicate. The lawyers stated that such claims are untrue and target both the officers and the firm itself. They indicated that they are considering civil action against those spreading these false statements, noting that while freedom of speech is protected under the Federal Constitution, it is not absolute.
