Layda Sansores endorses Esteban Hinojosa for Campeche mayoralty

Campeche Governor Layda Sansores has publicly endorsed Esteban Hinojosa Rebolledo as her preferred candidate for the mayoralty of San Francisco de Campeche in the 2027 elections. Sansores, representing the Morena party, referred to Hinojosa as her “carta de oro” (golden card) during her weekly broadcast.

Hinojosa, who currently serves as the Secretary of Welfare in the state administration, was not the governor's initial choice. Sansores noted that Yamile Moguel was her first preference, but Moguel declined to run due to family commitments. Following this, the governor re-evaluated political profiles within her structure and selected Hinojosa.

The governor highlighted Hinojosa's intellectual background as an author and his alignment with the political project of President Claudia Sheinbaum. While the endorsement is a significant political signal, Hinojosa must still complete Morena's internal party procedures to secure an official candidacy. The municipality is currently governed by Biby Rabelo de la Torre of Movimiento Ciudadano.
