Lazarillo International Contemporary Theatre Festival opens in Spain

Lazarillo Festival contemporary theatre Manzanares performing arts Escena Award

The 52nd Lazarillo International Contemporary Theatre Festival has commenced in Manzanares, Spain. The inaugural performance, created and performed by Serena Martínez and Carlos Díaz-Pintado, utilized music, gestures, and live video to explore the essence of theatre.

Local and regional officials, including Carmen Teresa Olmedo from the Castilla-La Mancha Ministry of Culture, highlighted the festival's role in social transformation, citizen participation, and rural development. Carlos Villajos, representing the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, noted the event's importance as a driver for social cohesion in local municipalities.

The festival will also honor actress María Galiana with the Escena 2026 award this coming Saturday.
