Lazarus Group shifts $7.7 million in Bitcoin, market reaction muted
North Korea‑linked Lazarus Group transferred 121.5 BTC, valued at about $7.74 million, to two unidentified addresses on July 30 2026, according to blockchain trackers Arkham Intelligence and Lookonchain. The move was noted by analysts but caused little immediate impact on the Bitcoin market; the price hovered near $64,140, slipping only 0.2 % after the transfer.
The transaction adds to a pattern of large‑scale crypto thefts attributed to Lazarus. By April 2026 the group had stolen roughly $577 million in cryptocurrency, including a $285 million exploit of the Drift Protocol and a $292 million breach of a KelpDAO bridge. Since 2017 North Korean hackers have taken over $6 billion in digital assets, accounting for a growing share of global crypto thefts. While the current transfer is modest relative to daily market volume, it draws attention because Lazarus‑linked wallets are closely monitored for signs of laundering stolen funds.
