Lazio faces potential transfer market restrictions due to financial index

Lazio faces significant financial uncertainty regarding its ability to participate in the upcoming winter transfer window. A key assessment of the club’s accounts, used to calculate the Expanded Labor Cost Index, is being conducted to determine whether the club will face a restricted market.

If the index remains above the 0.7 threshold, the club may be forced into a ‘zero-balance’ market, where new signings can only be made if offset by equivalent economic coverage. In a worst-case scenario, the market could be completely blocked. Current projections suggest the club may struggle to meet the required threshold, as previous readings were as high as 0.82.

Financial pressures are compounded by upcoming obligations, including estimated costs between 31.3 million and 39.5 million euros to finalize permanent transfers for players such as Frattesi, Sutalo, and Gudmundsson. Achieving European competition qualification is viewed as a critical factor that could provide the necessary resources to stabilize the club’s finances for future seasons.
