Lazio faces rising evictions and housing poverty crisis
Data from the Italian Ministry of the Interior and the Caritas diocesan report reveal a growing social crisis in the Lazio region, characterized by rising housing insecurity and poverty.
In the province of Frosinone, eviction procedures have seen a significant surge, with reports indicating a 176% increase. While the Lazio region overall recorded 5,693 eviction orders in 2025—a 6.69% decrease compared to 2024—the localized spike in Ciociaria highlights intense economic pressure. The primary driver for these evictions is non-payment of rent or other related financial difficulties, totaling 3,735 cases across the region.
In Rome, the Caritas 2025 report, titled ‘Una carità che interroga e rigenera’, highlights widespread vulnerability. The organization assisted over 16,000 citizens through parish networks and provided more than 310,000 meals to approximately 12,300 people via social canteens. The report emphasizes a growing housing emergency, as more families struggle to manage rent and mortgage payments, moving the crisis beyond the margins of society into the daily lives of many households.
