Lazio fans protest in Rome against club president Claudio Lotito

On July 2, more than 25,000 Lazio supporters marched through Rome, starting at Ponte Milvio and ending at Piazza Ankara near the Flaminio stadium. The demonstration was directed at club president Claudio Lotito, whose leadership has drawn criticism from the fan base.

During the rally, TV presenter and Lazio supporter Pino Insegno made remarks that were widely shared online, with some interpreting them as a death threat toward Lotito. Insegno later clarified that his comment was a joke.

Club president Lotito subsequently appeared before Rome prosecutors, alleging an “external regia” seeking to destabilise Lazio financially and administratively. He described the claim as a concerted effort to undermine the club and hand it over to unknown parties.

Separate reports noted that, prior to the protest, Lotito had been considering technical staff changes, including contacts with former goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi and former captain Senad Lulic for possible roles at the club. Journalist Luigi Bisignani also published a supportive letter praising the protest as a civilised expression of fan identity.
