Lazio Governor Francesco Rocca advances Rome Capitale reform and backs new stadium projects

Lazio Region President Francesco Rocca told Adnkronos he will run for re‑election and is not concerned about a primary challenge. He said the constitutional reform that would give Rome Capitale greater powers has passed the Chamber and is now before the Senate, requiring four parliamentary votes. Rocca criticised the Democratic Party for abstaining on the vote, calling the move a political calculation that harms Rome’s citizens.

Rocca also explained his presence at a protest by Lazio football fans against club owner Claudio Lotito, stating he attended to listen to citizens rather than intervene in private club matters. He highlighted the planned redevelopment of the Flaminio stadium, aiming for a new Lazio venue by 2029, and noted that both the Lazio and Roma stadium projects represent major opportunities for urban regeneration, jobs, tourism and positioning Rome among Europe’s leading event cities. The regional government will support the initiatives within its competencies.
