Lazio hires Gennaro Gattuso as head coach to replace Maurizio Sarri

Italian Serie A club Lazio has reached an agreement with former Italy national team manager Gennaro Gattuso to become the team's head coach. The contract is a two‑year deal running until 2028 and is reported to be worth around €3 million in total. Gattuso, who was dismissed as Italy coach after failing to qualify for the World Cup, previously led clubs such as Milan, Napoli, Valencia and Marseille.

The appointment follows the imminent departure of Maurizio Sarri, who is set to join Atalanta. Lazio president Claudio Lotito has been negotiating Sarri’s release from his contract that runs until 2028, a process complicated by financial settlements and a strained relationship between the two men. Lazio finished the previous season in ninth place, missing European competition, and hopes Gattuso can revive the club’s fortunes.

All three reports confirm the pending signatures, noting that finalisation depends on the resolution of Sarri’s exit.
