Lazio implements new public transport measures and subscription extensions
The Lazio Region has announced measures to facilitate the transition of local public transport services. All Metrebus Lazio subscriptions, including both standard and subsidized versions, will remain valid until December 31, 2026, on routes transitioning from Cotral to the new Unità di Rete (UdR) under the coordination of Astral. This extension ensures passengers can continue using their travel passes without interruption or economic changes during the restructuring. Notably, Metrebus Lazio Student subscriptions are excluded from this measure, as Cotral will continue managing school services for the full year.
Additionally, the region has introduced free regional bus travel for residents over the age of 70. This initiative integrates with the new “Metrebus Plus” tariff system designed for the Unità di Rete service areas.
In Civitavecchia, the local municipality has decided not to pursue a subcontracting model for public transport due to rising costs and economic instability. Instead, the service will transition to a new manager on October 31 as part of the regional project. Following negotiations with Astral, the administration secured commitments to maintain all current city lines, increase services to Campo dell’Oro, establish a dedicated link to the Carlo Chenis oncology center, and ensure social clauses protect current employees.
