Lazio launches augmented reality video game to promote cultural tourism

The Lazio region has introduced ‘Custodi della Storia’, an augmented reality video game project designed to transform historical sites into interactive adventures. Developed by Larp Studio with support from the Lazio Region, the initiative uses a dedicated smartphone application to turn local monuments and city streets into mission scenarios.

Participants act as agents for the ‘Lighthouse’, a fictional agency investigating anomalies where the past intersects with the present. The gameplay involves walking through historical centers, solving enigmas, and using augmented reality to encounter historical figures and virtual elements. Success in the game relies on the player's ability to gather information and understand the historical context of the locations visited.

The project debuts with two free events: one in Lanuvio (Rome province) on November 7, featuring mysteries surrounding Villa Sforza Cesarini, and another in Sutri (Viterbo province) on November 8, centered on an unusual incident involving an ancient fresco. These missions aim to blend cultural tourism with modern technology to engage visitors with the region's heritage.
