Lazio Region debates regulations for tourist golf cars
The Lazio Region held a meeting to discuss the regulation of golf car tourist transport, specifically addressing Regional Law n. 302 regarding tourist shuttles in historic centers. The discussions involved various stakeholders, including taxi drivers, private hire vehicle (NCC) operators, tourist bus operators, tour operators, and golf car companies.
Key unresolved issues include the implementation of a cap on the number of vehicles, the establishment of predetermined routes, the requirement for professional driver qualifications with a formal registry, and the creation of designated parking and stopping areas.
Marco Bertucci, a regional councilor and president of the Budget Commission, stated that the goal is not to suppress the activity but to regulate it through a synthesis that avoids mere amnesty. The proposed legislation aims to distinguish between tourist municipalities and Rome, potentially addressing access restrictions to UNESCO sites within the capital's historic center. The Transport Commission is scheduled to meet again on October 20, with hopes for regional council approval by November.
