Lazio region focuses on sustainable maritime economy and port investments

The Lazio region is advancing a strategic transition toward a sustainable maritime economy, focusing on the ports of Civitavecchia, Fiumicino, and Gaeta. During the 'Dal Green al Blue' debate and the Blue Planet Economy Expoforum, officials discussed significant investments aimed at decarbonizing port logistics and enhancing regional competitiveness.

Key initiatives include the electrification of quays at Civitavecchia, a project expected to be functional by the end of 2027, and the development of a Hydrogen Valley to support green logistics. Other priorities involve improving rail connections to port docks, promoting sustainable boating through electric propulsion and new materials, and implementing environmental protections such as plastic waste collection and coastal redevelopment.

Authorities emphasized that successful implementation requires synergy between public institutions and private enterprises, alongside a strong focus on professional training to provide new employment opportunities in the maritime sector.
