Lazio region launches new guide to olive oil production

A new publication titled “L’Universo dell’Oro Verde” (The Universe of Green Gold) has been released to showcase the olive oil industry in the Lazio region of Italy. Developed in collaboration with the Lazio Region and the Regional Agency for the Development and Innovation of Agriculture of Lazio (Arsial), the guide was presented in Terracina at the Americo Quattrociocchi olive oil estate.

The 192-page guide features 90 producers across five provinces, covering areas such as Tuscia, Sabina, Colline Pontine, Ciociaria, and Rome. It highlights the region's significant agricultural footprint, which includes 83,000 hectares of olive groves, 300 active mills, and an average annual production of 15,000 tons of extra virgin olive oil. The publication details protected designations of origin (DOP) including Sabina, Canino, Tuscia, and Colline Pontine, as well as the IGP Olio di Roma and Oliva di Gaeta DOP.

Regional Agriculture and Budget Councilor Giancarlo Righini noted that olive growing is a strategic resource for the local agricultural economy and rural development. While celebrating the sector's biodiversity and innovation, officials also acknowledged challenges such as falling market prices, emphasizing the need for competitiveness through innovation and generational renewal.
