Lazio Regional Council receives 13,000 signatures for assisted dying bill

Over 13,000 signatures have been submitted to the Lazio Regional Council in support of the ‘Liberi Subito’ bill. Proposed by the Associazione Luca Coscioni, the regional law aims to facilitate medical assistance for voluntary death.

Marco Cappato, Treasurer of the Associazione Luca Coscioni, stated that a regional law is necessary to ensure access to medical assistance for dying is real and to avoid disparities and delays. The initiative seeks to establish clear procedures for those meeting the requirements set by Constitutional Court sentence 242/2019, providing guarantees for both patients and medical professionals.

Similar regional proposals have already been approved in Veneto, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, and Sardinia, with signatures recently deposited in Lombardy and Piedmont, and expected in Calabria by the end of October.
