Lazio retains Matteo Cancellieri despite transfer interest

Lazio has decided to retain winger Matteo Cancellieri despite significant interest from other clubs during the transfer window. Although the 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Genoa, Parma, or Fiorentina, the club has rejected these proposals.

Reports indicate that head coach Gennaro Gattuso influenced the decision to keep the player, citing technical reasons and a lack of suitable replacements for the left-sided attacking role. While a potential swap deal involving Albert Gudmundsson and Fiorentina was discussed, it is unlikely to materialize as Gudmundsson is viewed as a central attacking midfielder rather than a winger.

Cancellieri, whose contract runs until 2027, had previously been considered for sale to capitalize on his remaining contract time, but he is now expected to remain at Formello.
