Lazio signs Argentine striker Hernán Crespo for 110 billion lire in 2000
On 31 July 2000 at Formello, S.S. Lazio announced the signing of Argentine forward Hernán Jorge Crespo from Parma for a reported fee of 110 billion Italian lire. The deal, negotiated by club president Sergio Cragnotti, also involved the exchange of players such as Matías Almeyda and Sérgio Conceição and a cash settlement.
Crespo scored 26 league goals in his debut Serie A season, finishing as the competition’s top scorer, but Lazio failed to retain the scudetto, losing the title to Roma. His output fell to 13 goals the following year, and he was transferred to Inter Milan in the summer of 2002 for roughly €36 million.
