Lazio targets Stepan Chaloupek and clarifies Markmann rejection

Lazio is actively pursuing defensive reinforcements in the transfer market. The club has reportedly submitted an official offer to Slavia Prague for Czech central defender Stepan Chaloupek. Chaloupek, known for his physical presence and goal-scoring ability—having recorded nine goals and five assists in the 2025/2026 season—is viewed as a player whose technical skills and speed could suit the tactical needs of Gennaro Gattuso.

Separately, Sporting Director Riget addressed the club's previous failed attempt to sign Markmann. Riget explained that the player declined the move to Lazio because he believed he had better opportunities abroad, though the club agreed that staying another year to continue his development was the best path for his career.
