Lazio updates fair compensation laws as court mandates fee adjustments

The Lazio Regional Council has unanimously approved a law to update regional regulations regarding fair compensation (equo compenso) for professional services, aligning them with national law No. 49 of April 21, 2023. The new measure strengthens protections for professionals working with the Lazio Region, its instrumental bodies, and controlled companies. It prohibits contract clauses that fail to guarantee compensation proportionate to the quantity and quality of work performed.

In a separate legal development, the TAR Lazio issued a ruling (No. 14327/2026) following an appeal by the Order of Engineers of the Province of Genoa against the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The court found the ministries' failure to adjust judicial technical consultant fees to inflation illegal. This decision allows for a fee adjustment exceeding 60%, addressing the stagnation of rates that had remained unchanged since 2002.
