Lazio signs Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi while Dominguez deal stalls

Dutch centre‑back Danilho Doekhi has joined S.S. Lazio on a free transfer, signing a three‑year contract after completing his medical. The 28‑year‑old, formerly of Union Berlin, said he is "very happy to be here" and praised Lazio as a "very important club". He highlighted his defensive style, his ability to contribute offensively on set‑pieces, and named former Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as his idol. Doekhi will wear the number 5 shirt, a number he wore at Union Berlin.

Lazio’s transfer agenda also centres on 21‑year‑old Spanish defender Sergi Dominguez from Dinamo Zagreb. The club’s sporting director Fabiani has made an initial approach in Split, but negotiations have stalled over price and loan‑with‑option terms. Serie A side Venezia has entered the race, reportedly offering a higher upfront fee. Lazio is weighing its options, with the club’s hierarchy keen to bolster a defence that has struggled since the departures of Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli.
