Lübeck hosts exhibition to mark 125th anniversary of Buddenbrooks

The Buddenbrookhaus is opening the exhibition ‘Family Affairs’ at the Sankt Annen-Museum in Lübeck to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Thomas Mann’s novel, ‘Buddenbrooks. The Decline of a Family’.

The opening event on October 29 includes a musical program featuring Sarah Sieprath, Ole Ruge, Elias Kollath, and Josha Poll, as well as improvisational theater centered on the theme of family by Jade Frank and Jano Röder. The event will also host guests including the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, State Minister Dr. Wolfram Weimer.

Thomas Mann, born in Lübeck to a wealthy merchant family, remains one of Germany’s most significant 20th-century authors. His life and work, including his Nobel Prize-winning literary career and his later role as a political voice against the Nazi regime during his exile, are deeply connected to the themes of family and social change explored in his writing.
