LébéNam app launched in Togo to combat gender-based violence

In Lomé, Togo, a new digital initiative called LébéNam has been launched to combat gender-based violence (GBV). Developed by WANEP-Togo with technical and financial support from UNFPA and EQUIPOP, the application aims to strengthen prevention, reporting, and support mechanisms for victims.

LébéNam, which means ‘take care of me’ in Ewe/Mina, functions as an integrated platform that goes beyond simple reporting. It includes features for listening, orientation, and community solidarity. The app utilizes artificial intelligence to help direct victims to the most appropriate services based on their specific needs, ensuring a holistic approach to care.

To address cultural barriers and improve accessibility, the platform incorporates multilingual content and educational games designed to raise awareness. The pilot phase was introduced during a ‘Living Lab’ event involving various stakeholders, including government ministries, health professionals, security forces, and civil society organizations.
