LBRCA calls for action as diesel prices approach $3 per litre
The Livestock, Bulk and Rural Carriers Association (LBRCA) is urging immediate intervention as diesel prices approach $3 per litre. LBRCA President Wade Lewis warned that rising fuel costs are increasing the expense of transporting Australia’s livestock, grain, and agricultural products, stating that carriers cannot afford to bankroll a fuel crisis.
The association is calling on the Australian Government and regulators to examine fuel pricing margins across the supply chain and investigate any unlawful conduct. Additionally, the LBRCA is requesting that the government reconsider providing targeted fuel price relief.
Lewis also advised freight customers to work with operators by adjusting fuel levies to reflect current market costs rather than outdated pricing. He encouraged operators to implement transparent and regularly adjusted fuel levies to protect their businesses and ensure the continued movement of rural freight.
