Lúcio Mauro Filho reveals colorectal cancer diagnosis
Actor and comedian Lúcio Mauro Filho revealed that he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2022. The condition was discovered during a colonoscopy performed as part of a check-up following complications from COVID-19.
Colorectal cancer, which develops in the colon or rectum, is among the most frequent tumors in Brazil, according to the National Cancer Institute (Inca). Many cases originate from polyps, which are initially benign lesions that can evolve into tumors over time. Medical experts emphasize that early diagnosis through screening significantly increases cure rates and reduces treatment complexity.
Key screening methods include the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) and colonoscopy. The FIT is a non-invasive test that uses antibodies to detect microscopic blood in stool samples, while a colonoscopy allows doctors to directly visualize the interior of the colon and rectum to identify tumors or polyps.
