Lúcio Mauro Filho reveals 2022 intestinal cancer diagnosis

Brazilian actor Lúcio Mauro Filho has revealed that he was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2022. The discovery was made by chance during a routine medical check-up following a severe bout of Covid-19. The actor noted that he had kept the diagnosis private at the time because the early detection allowed for successful, non-invasive treatment, and he is currently in remission and healthy.

During his interview on the program ‘Alt Tabet’, Filho detailed the emotional challenges he faced, including panic attacks triggered by his recovery from Covid-19 and the subsequent loss of his mother to an aggressive form of cancer. He emphasized that the experience led him to adopt healthier lifestyle habits regarding diet and sleep.

His revelation serves as a public health alert regarding the importance of regular screenings. Medical experts note that colorectal cancer is often silent in its early stages, frequently presenting no clear symptoms. In Brazil, colorectal cancer accounts for approximately ten percent of new annual cancer cases, according to the National Cancer Institute (Inca).
