Lídia Jorge among favorites for Nobel Prize in Literature
The Swedish Academy is set to announce the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. Ahead of the announcement, Portuguese author Lídia Jorge has emerged as a prominent contender according to various betting markets.
Betting group Betsson identifies Chinese author Can Xue as the frontrunner, followed by Canadian Anne Carson and Australian Gerald Murnane. Other top candidates include César Aira and Cristina Rivera Garza. Meanwhile, Ladbrokes places Jorge in seventh position, alongside names such as Margaret Atwood, Lyudmilla Ulitskaya, and Jamaica Kincaid.
Lídia Jorge, a recipient of the Camões Prize and the Médicis Prize, has published over 30 books throughout her career, including notable works such as ‘A Costa dos Murmúrios’ and ‘Misericórdia’. If she wins, she would follow José Saramago as the only Portuguese author to receive the distinction.
