Jakarta DPRD proposes UU DKJ revision to protect legislative representation
The Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DKI Jakarta) has proposed a revision to the Special Jakarta Region Law (UU DKJ) to address concerns regarding citizen representation. Currently, the DPRD consists of 106 members, but new regulations could potentially reduce this number to approximately 85 seats.
Deputy Chairman Wibi Andrino stated that because Jakarta no longer has regency or municipal-level legislatures, the provincial DPRD must be strengthened to ensure adequate representation for nearly 11 million residents. The proposal submitted to the DPR RI Legislative Body suggests maintaining the previous seat count from the 2024 election or even increasing the number to between 180 and 220 members to create a more ideal representation ratio.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung clarified that the objective is not merely to request additional seats, but to prevent a reduction in representation caused by the new law. He emphasized the need for discussion to ensure the number of members remains proportional to the needs of Jakarta's citizens.
