The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) held an extraordinary congress on 30‑31 July 2026. In a secret ballot, 170 delegates voted against a motion to remove party president Lumir Abdixhiku, 152 voted for it and five ballots were invalid, allowing Abdixhiku to retain his post.

Following the congress, LDK announced it would resume talks with the ruling Vetëvendosje (LVV) to negotiate the formation of new state institutions. Deputy‑President Lutfi Haziri outlined a three‑principle framework for the cooperation, and the party adopted a decision obligating all members to respect and implement the majority’s decisions.

Kosovo’s acting president Albulena Haxhiu scheduled a constitutional session for 6 August 2026 to formalise the new Assembly, a step that will enable the formation of a new government and the election of a president. The resumption of LDK‑LVV talks and the upcoming constitutional session are seen as crucial for stabilising Kosovo’s institutions after the June 2026 parliamentary elections.
