LDP research group requests promotion of Ritsuyo and core education
The Liberal Democratic Party’s ‘Ritsuyo and Core Education Research Group’ submitted a formal request to the Cabinet Office on September 14, 2026, to promote physical education focused on ‘Ritsuyo’ (maintaining an upright pelvic posture) and core strength.
The initiative aims to combat declining physical abilities, poor posture, and reduced outdoor activity among children caused by increased digitalization and environmental changes. The group proposes a ‘Japan Regeneration National Movement’ where local governments set specific improvement targets for physical fitness, bullying, and school refusal over 3, 5, and 10-year periods.
To fund this, the group intends to utilize the Regional Revitalization Support Tax System (corporate version of hometown tax donations). This would allow private companies to support municipalities in implementing ‘Ritsuyo and Core Play’ for ages 0 to 100. Practical applications include instructor training and daily ‘Ritsuyo time’ in nurseries, kindergartens, and schools, alongside health seminars for parents regarding nutrition and gut health.
