Ældre Sagen demands 500 million DKK for dementia care in Denmark
Ældre Sagen, a Danish advocacy group for the elderly, is calling for a 500 million DKK political investment to improve dementia care in Denmark. The organization argues that the current system is ill-equipped to handle the rising number of people living with dementia.
Bjarne Hastrup, the managing director of Ældre Sagen, stated that the area has been under-prioritized for too long. He noted that families often struggle to navigate the complex landscape of doctors, memory clinics, municipalities, and home care services. To address these issues, the group is proposing a 'chronic illness package' (kronikerpakke) designed to ensure a cohesive journey from the first suspicion of illness through the entire progression of the disease. This package would include rights to full diagnosis within 90 days and early contact with a dementia coordinator.
