LDS Church coverage expands and scholars seek lost Joseph Smith sermon

The Salt Lake Tribune and other Utah media outlets have increased secular coverage of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints, publishing stories ranging from the most devout members worldwide to local legal interactions involving church officials.

Separately, church historians are working to uncover a potentially lost sermon by early church founder Joseph Smith. Using Pitman shorthand expertise, LaJean Purcell Carruth has transcribed previously indecipherable 19th‑century documents, while Spencer McBride notes that Smith rarely prepared written texts, making any new discovery especially significant for understanding early LDS teachings.
