Le Creuset launches paper fiber cutting boards
Le Creuset has introduced a new line of paper fiber cutting boards designed to address common kitchenware trade-offs. Made from FSC-certified paper fiber, these boards are intended to be lightweight and sturdy while remaining gentle on knife edges. Unlike wooden boards, which require regular oiling to prevent cracking, or glass and stone surfaces that can dull knives, these paper fiber boards are dishwasher-safe and resistant to odors and staining. They feature a non-slip silicone grip and engraved borders to manage food juices.
In the broader context of kitchen safety, the choice between wood and plastic cutting boards involves considerations of hygiene and material longevity. While wood is porous, research suggests that bacteria trapped in its crevices often die off as moisture evaporates. However, wood is more difficult to sanitize because it cannot be placed in a dishwasher without risking warping. Conversely, plastic boards present concerns regarding the potential ingestion of microplastics.
