Le Croisic and Lorient Ports Showcase French Maritime Tourism
Port Le Croisic on France’s Atlantic coast combines daily port activity with tourism, offering boat trips, fishing, beaches and local gastronomy. Since 1 January 2011 the port has been managed by a mixed‑economy company under the Loire‑Atlantique ports syndicate, providing clear information on berths, tariffs and ongoing works for visitors.
The nearby Rade de Lorient, extending to the island of Groix in Morbihan, blends a historic fishing harbour with naval and sailing activities. Early‑morning fish‑processing crews, such as the veteran Gwenola Jaffré who is retiring after four decades, prepare catches for market. The 17th‑century citadel at Port‑Louis, upgraded under Colbert, remains a landmark of the region’s maritime heritage. Both ports illustrate how France’s coastal towns integrate heritage, industry and tourism for families and sea‑enthusiasts.
