Île-de-France Chamber of Agriculture reports significant crop losses

The Île-de-France Chamber of Agriculture met in Paris on September 14 to address significant agricultural challenges following an exceptional summer of extreme weather. President Damien Greffin noted that regional grain yields during harvests decreased by 10% to 15%, and upcoming crops in large-scale farming and market gardening are suffering heavily.

Specific concerns were raised regarding rapeseed planting difficulties and an alarming situation for sugar beets. Cyrille Milard, president of the CGB Île-de-France, reported that between 3,000 and 5,000 hectares in Seine-et-Marne alone may be unharvestable as beets are dying in the fields.

On a national level, FNSEA President Arnaud Rousseau discussed the promulgation of the agricultural emergency law, stating that the industry is awaiting all decrees before the end of the year to evaluate political candidates' agricultural visions. The session also touched upon geopolitical instability and tensions between the European Union and Brazil regarding poultry export authorizations.
