Vietnam conducts memorial services and martyr remains recovery efforts

Various commemorative and recovery efforts are underway across Vietnam. In Làng Nủ, local leaders held a ceremony to honor the 67 victims of a devastating flash flood that occurred on September 10, 2024. Following the disaster, a new resettlement area with 40 houses and community facilities has been established to help residents stabilize their lives.

In Ho Chi Minh City, search teams at Le Thi Rieng Park discovered a second burial trench, leading to the recovery of four martyr remains. Military officials from Region 7 and the Ho Chi Minh City Command are overseeing the excavation to identify the remains through historical records and DNA. Similarly, in Da Nang, authorities recovered remains and personal artifacts, including a military badge and clothing, in Tra Giap commune.

In Quang Ngai, investigators found engraved spoons in unidentified graves, providing potential clues for identification. Meanwhile, in the Mekong Delta region, a national campaign is accelerating the search and identification of martyr remains, with progress reported in Can Tho, Vinh Long, and Dong Thap provinces.

In a separate maritime effort, the Vietnam Coast Guard is conducting high-intensity patrols to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, focusing on vessel documentation and monitoring equipment to comply with international standards.
