Lea Salonga receives first Filipina star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Lea Salonga has become the first Filipina to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony, held outside the Pantages Theatre, honored the award-winning actress and singer for her extensive career in musical theater and film.

Salonga is widely recognized for her work as a Disney Legend, having provided the singing voices for Princess Jasmine in ‘Aladdin’ and Mulan in ‘Mulan’. During the ceremony, Ming-Na Wen, who voiced the speaking role of Mulan, spoke in honor of Salonga, noting her significant impact on international entertainment.

Salonga’s professional journey began with Repertory Philippines before she achieved global stardom in productions such as ‘Miss Saigon’ on London’s West End and Broadway. In her acceptance speech, Salonga expressed hope that her achievement would inspire young Filipinos to pursue careers in Hollywood.
