Lea Ypi warns institutional deadlock harms Kosovo

Academic and writer Lea Ypi, a professor of politics and philosophy at the London School of Economics, addressed political developments in Kosovo and the wider region during a seminar at the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Philosophy. Organized by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the event featured Ypi discussing social and political issues.

Commenting on the institutional deadlock in Kosovo, Ypi stated that institutional bottlenecks harm the citizens. She emphasized that Kosovo is a small, young, and vulnerable state in terms of international geopolitics, and therefore cannot afford political divisions. She urged political parties to fulfill their obligation to cooperate rather than holding the country hostage to personal or power ambitions.

Ypi also noted that while internal political instability may affect the local population, international actors may not place significant importance on the developments of such small nations. She suggested that the primary damage caused by these conflicts is felt by those living within Kosovo and Albania.
